Students who attend APPS and who are in a Specialist Sports Program have the opportunity to be selected into the School’s Sports Specialist class. The Sports Specialist class has no more than 15 students to a classroom. Individualised learning programs are developed and implemented for those students who miss learning or lesson time due to their sporting and training commitments.
The Football program is based on the Football Federation Australia National Curriculum. The program will focus on the Skill Acquisition Phase in particular developing the four core functional game skills when in possession of the ball.
Training Session Outline
In every session the focus is on one of the core skills, from beginning until the end of the session. The Skill Acquisition session consists of 3 components:
Skill Introduction- this is the warm up as well as an introduction to the designated core skill for the session.
Skill Training- this is the part of the session where conscious teaching and learning of the designated core skill takes place.
Skill Game- A game where as much as possible all the elements of the real game are present in an organised way that the designated core skill has to be used regularly.
It is also important to note that decision making, awareness, game insight and problem solving are core components of all sessions and form an important part of learning.
